District 11 Donates Quarry Stone to the Neighborhood
School District 11 has donated a quarry stone fence to Middle Shooks Run for preservation as a park feature. The stone, linked to a local quarry and previous property use, will be designed with community input. Neighbors are encouraged to share ideas and offer assistance in the project.

Neighbors will create ceramic tiles for public art on lamp post bases, guided by volunteer Frank. No experience necessary; families and donations are welcome.

Bur Oaks – $85
Louise, John, and Daniel planted two Bur Oaks on E Willamette Ave, marking the start of a future canopy providing shade and beauty. Two more trees are available for $85 each, with negotiable prices to facilitate planting. Interested individuals can secure a tree by emailing info@msrna.org.

Increasing Biodiversity One Native Plant at a time
The Wild Ones Front Range Chapter encourages residents of Colorado Springs to enhance their neighborhood by planting native Colorado plants, which support pollinators. They offer free Native Plant Starter Kits, featuring local wildflowers and grasses, with a suggested donation. Kits can be ordered until May 15, available for pickup on May 27 and 28.

Neighborhood Tree Sale — Reserve Yours Today!
The Middle Shooks Run Neighborhood Association is offering two native tree species for purchase: Bur Oak and Thornless Cockspur Hawthorn, with a focus on enhancing the neighborhood’s tree canopy. Get Involved with Colorado Springs’ Free Tree Program
The City of Colorado Springs is launching the Grow Shade Together program, funded by a federal grant, offering free tree planting to eligible residents in low-canopy areas. Applications are open until March 18, 2026, with planting scheduled from April 20 to May 22, 2026. Residents north of Boulder St can purchase trees.
