MSRNA asked City Traffic Engineering for a neighborhood meeting before any decisions get made on Boulder Street. Todd Frisbie, Traffic Engineering Division Manager, got back to us: the city isn’t ready for a public meeting yet, internal planning is still underway, and he expects a definitive plan by the end of the year. He’s committed to keeping us posted.
In the meantime, he’s opened a direct line for input. Residents can send thoughts on Boulder Street to Traffic.Eng@coloradosprings.gov, and the department will compile what comes in for review.
We wrote earlier this summer how the curb, gutter, and sidewalk work you’re seeing now is prep for a full repaving on the city’s 2027 paving list. What happens to the road itself after that is still undecided, which means now is the time to weigh in, while the plan is still taking shape.
Boulder Street serves a lot of people: Columbia Elementary families, neighbors near Shooks Run Cafe and Boulder Street Church, folks headed to Memorial, and Olympic athletes crossing it daily. A design that works for everyone will take more than one voice.
In recent conversations with neighbors, we’ve discussed the issues on Boulder St: many drivers speeding, on-street parking with no clear marking, and too few places to safely cross on foot. We want a Boulder Street designed for safe, reasonable speeds that match the pace of our neighborhood, with parking clearly marked and pedestrian crossings that are safe and easy to find. We neighbors have the lived experience of this street and what could make it better.
