Recap: Spring Creek Cleanup

Pikes Peak Snow

On Saturday, May 2, Middle Shooks Run neighbors stepped up for our local waterway during Creek Week, the largest watershed-wide cleanup in Colorado. Under a bright sun and the gaze of a Pikes Peak freshly coated in snow from the previous day’s storm, more than a dozen of our neighbors gathered to make a tangible difference in our community.

Between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM, we focused our efforts on the stretch of Shooks Run Creek from Platte Avenue south to Pikes Peak Avenue. It was a beautiful, cool morning to spend time with good neighbors and care for the creek we love.

The Impact

Our collective effort resulted in a significant haul that directly improves the health and beauty of our watershed:

  • 51 bags of trash removed from the creek bed and banks.
  • Numerous large debris items cleared away.
  • 30+ man-hours of dedicated community stewardship.

A Big Thank You

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers who dedicated their Saturday morning to this project:

Pam, Dave, Emily, Francisco, Blake, Brook, Cheyenne, Daniel, Louise, Megan, Nate, Kirk, Doug, and Shaun.

The best part of the day was spending time with good neighbors, all while demonstrating that “local and small” action will positively influence our neighborhood quality of life. Thank you for helping us keep Middle Shooks Run a resilient, welcoming, and vibrant neighborhood.
