The Mosaic Project is officially getting underway.
We’re hosting our first tile-making session on Saturday, June 6 from 9–11am at a neighbor’s garage studio near the Mid Shooks Run Park. Location details will be shared by email when you sign up.
This session is all about clay. Neighbors will hand-make the ceramic accent tiles that will eventually be installed on the lamp post bases along the trail — the same tradition of community-made public art you’ve seen on the older lamp bases near the tennis courts. We’ll be working with clay from Rocky Mountain Clay, guided by our neighbor Frank, who is donating his expertise, his studio, and his kiln to make this project possible.
No experience needed. If you can show up and use your hands, you belong here.
A note for families: Children are welcome, and we’d love to have them involved. Please be aware that the workspace includes sharp tools and hot surfaces, so little ones will need a grown-up nearby.
We currently have about six volunteers signed up and room for six more. There’s no cost to attend, but donations are warmly welcomed to help cover kiln time and materials.
This is just the beginning — future sessions will cover glazing, and eventually installation in the park itself. We’re learning as we go, and that’s exactly the point.
