MSRNA asked School District 11 about the future of the quarry stone fence at 429 N. Nevada Avenue, and the district has graciously donated the stone to Middle Shooks Run to be preserved as a new park feature.
The stone is likely from an old local quarry and was used as a fence at one of the St. Vrain properties that will be cleared for the new Palmer High School campus. Rather than see it hauled off with the rest of the demolition, D11 had it palletized and is holding it at their landscaping contractor’s yard while we finalize a design.
We have a couple of ideas how to use the stone, but we’d also love our neighbors’ input.
A meeting circle? Resting benches along the trail? Seating on the slope by the basketball court, where Palmer High School kids already gather at lunch and after school? Something none of us has thought of? We’re working with City Parks on a design and the approvals that go with it, and we want the ideas to come from the neighborhood first.
If you watched the handmade tile mosaic go up on the lamp post base this summer, you already know what this neighborhood can do with a good idea and a few motivated neighbors.
