Bus Fare Survey

If you ride the bus, or wish our transit worked better, here’s a chance to be heard. Mountain Metro Transit is conducting a comprehensive Fare Study, and they’re asking community members to weigh in through a short survey.

First, the most important point up front: this is not a proposal to immediately change or raise fares. Instead, the study is focused on modernizing how fares work—improving usability, strengthening partnerships, and aligning transit pricing with regional mobility goals.

What the study is trying to accomplish:

  • Make fares easier to understand and use
  • Balance affordability with long-term system sustainability
  • Evaluate modern payment technologies
  • Support workforce mobility and access to essential services
  • Identify opportunities to increase ridership and reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips
  • Develop a clear, phased implementation roadmap

Why this matters to us in Middle Shooks Run: MMT routes 5, 7, 8, and 12 all serve our neighborhood. Decisions about fare structure and payment technology directly shape how convenient and affordable it is for our neighbors—commuters, students, seniors, and anyone trying to leave the car at home—to get around. The study team has noted that surveys and conversations help capture real-world barriers that aren’t visible in the data alone and refine their recommendations. That’s exactly where our lived experience as riders adds value.

Take the survey by June 15. While MMT hasn’t posted a formal closing date, we’d encourage you to complete it by June 15 so our neighborhood’s input is in early. It only takes a few minutes, and a strong response from Middle Shooks Run ensures we’re part of the conversation.
