Permanent Closure of Boulder St

UPDATE: See new post for update on Boulder Street.

The development plan for Palmer High School was presented to the Downtown Review Board and the City Planning Commission, and both deliberative bodies have recommended that City Council approve the project. Notably, the plan includes permanently closing Boulder Street between Weber Street and Nevada Avenue to create sufficient space for a full-size running track to support physical education classes. If approved, the City would “vacate” that section of road, meaning it will become the private property District 11. This will allow for a partial consolidation of the campus, although D11 has no plans to divest from the Erps Gym on Wahsatch. The original post on our website referenced only Phase 1A, in which the plan shows a pedestrian plaza on Boulder.

It is highly likely that City Council will approve this plan unless it is met with significant opposition through written comments and public testimony at the March 10 public hearing.
